Quick Challenge Update: No wonder there’s so much hype about Niche sites

26th Nov 2011Case Study: Optin Box Design, Musings, , , , , ,

Couple of days into the challenge approximately 4 days and 3 more to go and I am so close but so far from achieving my goal of creating an income stream in 1 week aka 7 days

Throughout this past days Ive spent sleepless nights, researching getting things done, coming up with plans to market to develop and what not.

This short 4 days has made me realize something, something which I only came to think of or notice today when I was going through the marketing execution of the plan I had.

I came to realize why NICHE sites profit etc are marketed so much and why people are jumping on the niche site wagon without a second thought.

Its so simple to see why! Because the alternative way to making money online is so much harder compared to niche site creation. Here’s a quick run down on how niche sites are created [note i'm no expert this is just my point of view based on lots of blog posts read]

1.Research for a niche [an undermarketed is usually a gold nugget or one with little competition]

2.Research and buy a domain name fingers crossed will be an exact match with your niche keyword

3.Target some keywords you want to rank high for on google [keywords from 1.]

4.Do some SEO magic [backlinks,article marketing,etc]

5.Rank high and presto [maybe/not]

The aim of the niche site is to rank high for a certain keyword[s] , which will consequently lead to an increase in traffic and hopefully increased sales of products you are hosting/affiliating for or adsense revenue

So in essence thats a quick overview of what niche site marketing is. The details of each step, again I dont know but when marketed like that its definitely sure to attract lots of interested parties.

One thing to note here is that your success in niche site creation is MOSTLY proportional to the amount of effort you put in applying, learning, building etc .

So its all YOU and 10% someone else.

Plus the cost is minimal, all you spend is:

Domain name = 11.99

Hosting= 9.99

Probably some tools which are expensive, but I’ve come across successful bloggers etc who have achieved success using free tools, so you can pass on the expensive tools and surf your way through with only your domain cost and hosting cost, probably your time too.

So generally its low cost to start, and your success is entirely dependent on you

How is that not a good online business to start?

Now on the other hand what I face in product creation or service provision, is so much different than this. In order not to leak any information from the planned challenge recap I would just say as opposed to niche sites creation, product/service creation you are going to have a hard time marketing it.

Trying to get the big/small influential/less influential bloggers to pick up on your pitch or most often your free product review your offering really really hard

Without say a “shoutout” from someone above you’re going to eventually face some difficulties in getting your product to the front of all those eye balls and potential customers.

This is what I’ve done so far :

-Contact via Facebook

-Contact via Twitter

-Contact via their blogs

and I am still going through each step making sure I didnt miss any potential blogger whom I could contact, and trust me, the replies arent encouraging.

But its all about sticking through it and persisting after each No, knowing there’s bound to be a Yes to come next.

Recap, niche sites creation, your totally dependent on your own abilities/time/experience/etc product creation/offering services you’re mostly dependent on it being picked up.

Trust me: “IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WOULDN’T COME”

You’ve got to either bring them or someone has to either send them

Now let me get back to my challenge, and I’ll definitely have something for you guys come Tuesday!

    Hey Martin,

I think it is way easier to build rapport with a blog than with a static website that doesn’t have any kind of interaction.

However, to build a community of loyal followers and turn them into prospects, can take some long time.

With a micro niche website, you have to focus on what matters the most, have a hungry market, have an amazing offer for them and figure a way to drive that traffic to your offer.

After that, the only thing that is left, is tweaking for conversions.

Sounds easy, it may be easy, as long as you got all the points right.

Get one wrong and the whole thing falls apart.

    What do you think?

I am currently stuck on the traffic side of things. I am looking for the most cost effective method of getting traffic to the website. For the moment I was focusing on SEO work but after my first SEO report and down $97 I was too impressed. So I am looking for a different route :)
